Biography | My name is Yodit Tesfaye, and I am passionate about helping Ethiopians raised or adopted abroad, as well as non-Amharic speakers, reconnect with the beauty of the Amharic language. With extensive experience teaching teenagers and adults — including many Chinese learners — I specialize in making Amharic accessible, fun, and practical. My teaching methods are highly interactive and rooted in play-based learning, inspired by my background in early childhood education. I believe that language learning should be an enjoyable journey! Through engaging activities, practical conversation exercises, and memorable techniques, I focus on helping you master the four basic skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Whether you are looking to reconnect with your Ethiopian heritage or are simply passionate about learning Amharic, my classes are designed to make your learning experience smooth, joyful, and deeply meaningful. I was born and raised in Ethiopia, where I grew up speaking my native language fluently and consistently earned Grade A marks in all my classes. Although I initially pursued Broadcast Journalism, I paused my studies due to challenges related to my psychosocial disability. I am currently studying for my first degree in Education Planning and Management at St. Mary’s University. Additionally, I am conducting family research through an online program at Brigham Young University (BYU). I have completed several trainings on the HighScope curriculum, which have strengthened my understanding of early childhood education. One of my strongest skills is language learning. I am fluent in English and have picked up conversational Korean and Hindi through self-study, primarily by watching films. I have a deep passion for learning about different cultures and languages, believing that language provides unique insight into a country’s values, ways of thinking, perspectives, and philosophies of life. Let’s rediscover your roots and bring Amharic to life together!
